Wining and Dining > Restaurants, Cafes and Bars

The Strand Hotel, on the corner of William and Crown Street, was the site of one of the most brazen murders of the razor gang era. In November 1929, two members of Tilly Devine's gang, Frank Green and Jim Devine shot Barney Dalton and Wally Tomlinson who were both working for Kate Leigh, at point-blank range. Dalton was killed outright and Tomlinson was seriously wounded.

The Strand Hotel opened its doors in 1923 and has been a Sydney staple bar for many years. It offers a cozy pub atmosphere with warm lighting and an English feel to it.

In summer the louvered windows which overlook the street, open up to give that alfresco feel inside.

A wide range of local and imported beers and ciders are available in The Strand. Also on offer is a selection of fantastic wines, spirits and cocktails.

Staff at The Strand are some of the friendliest you'll find around Sydney, always happy to help and full of information on the surrounding areas, they'll keep you up to date with what's on around Sydney.
