Don't get caught out when buying a secondhand car. It is on the seller to have a roadworthy certificate (RWC), NOT THE BUYER. If you are buying a car that is unregistered without a RWC, remember that you have no idea what repairs may be required to pass a RWC. So, get the car checked out before you buy for peace of mind that you are not left with a car that you can't afford to fix for RWC, meaning it can't be registered for on road. Some of our clients have been caught out thinking that they are getting a bargain paying $1000 for a car, trusting the seller when they say "it only needs a tyre for RWC". Then finding out that it will cost them $2000 worth of repairs for RWC, which they couldn't afford, so they are out of pocket $1000 with a car they can't use.
